Delete your Splyt account

This page is for the Splyt app ("splyt: tab & bill splitter" on Google Play and the App Store), made by Splyt Tech Inc.

Two ways to do it: in the app, or by email if you no longer have the app.

Before you delete

  • Deleting your account can't be undone.
  • Settle up in your groups. Newer versions of the app keep Delete account turned off while you owe money, or are owed money, in any group. To clear a balance, open the group, tap Settle up and record the payment. Can't settle a balance? Email us and we will delete your account anyway.
  • Deleting your account does not cancel Splyt+. Cancel it first in Google Play or the App Store.
  • Signed in to Splyt on another phone or browser too? Sign out there first.

Delete it in the app

The fastest way.

  1. Open Splyt and tap your photo or initials at the far right of the bottom bar to open Profile.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
  4. Confirm. Depending on your app version you tap Continue and then Delete account, or Delete it, I like doing math.
  5. If Splyt asks you to verify your number, enter the code we text you. If your account is still there afterwards, tap Delete account again.

If Splyt says Settle up first, settle your group balances, or email us instead.

No app? Email us

Send an email from any address to feedback@splytpay.com with the subject "Delete my Splyt account", and include the phone number on your account. You do not need to install the app, and you do not need to settle your group balances first.

Email feedback@splytpay.com

We will text that number a code. Reply to our email with the code to confirm it is you, and we delete nothing until you do. Once you confirm, we delete the account within 30 days and email you when it is done.

What we delete

When your account is deleted, within minutes:

  • Your sign-in, and the phone number on your profile
  • Your profile: your name, photo and settings
  • The payment details saved in your profile (Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, Cash / Other)
  • Your friends list, your friend requests, the contacts the app matched, and the copies of you that friends and contacts saw
  • Your restaurant lists, notes and reviews, and their copies in friends' feeds
  • Your referral and free scan records
  • Texts waiting to be sent to you
  • Your analytics profile (name, phone number and payment handles)

What we keep, and why

  • Receipts you hosted or joined. They stay visible to the other people on them, so everyone can still settle up. That includes your name, your items, the amounts, whether you paid, and on receipts you hosted, the receipt photo and the payment details shown there (your Venmo or Cash App name, or the phone number or email you use for Zelle). The service that reads receipts also keeps each receipt photo and what it read from it, filed under a receipt number, not your name. We do not delete receipts, so these have no end date.
  • Groups. Your name, expenses, settlements, balances and receipt photos stay in each group for the other members, because they are part of the group's shared history. We keep them with no end date, even after a group is deleted.
  • Numbers other people added. If someone added you to a receipt or a group by phone number, that number stays there, and the group keeps a note that it was you who joined with it. These have no end date.
  • Your name in other people's records. If a friend invited you to Splyt, your name stays on their referral credit, and if you invited a friend, your name stays on their profile as the person who invited them. Invites you sent to friends' numbers stay too, marked with your account ID, not your name. Receipt activity from older versions of Splyt stays in friends' feeds, like the receipts themselves. These have no end date.
  • Purchase records. If you bought Splyt+, we, Apple or Google, and our subscription provider each keep a record of every purchase (your account ID, the plan, the dates, renewals and refunds) for tax and accounting. These are not deleted with your account. Ours and our subscription provider's have no end date, and Apple and Google keep theirs under their own policies. Our copies of purchase notices also include your name, phone number and payment handles. If you ever paid by card in Splyt, our card payment provider keeps its record of you and of those payments under its own retention policy.
  • Usage history. Our analytics provider keeps the record of what was done in the app, like scanning a receipt or confirming a payment, under your account ID. Deleting your analytics profile does not remove it, and renewals of a Splyt+ plan you did not cancel keep being added to it. It is deleted automatically within 5 years.
  • Backups. We do not keep rolling backups of our databases. One archived copy of our database from January 2024 still holds the accounts that existed then, including names and phone numbers. It has no end date.
  • Records held by our service providers. Crash reports are deleted after 30 days, and server logs after 30 days. Our texting provider keeps a record of each text we sent to you, or to someone else on your behalf, including the phone number and the message. The last 13 months are kept in full, and older records are kept under that provider's retention policy.
